Delightful Japanese fish-shaped pastries filled with sweet or savory fillings, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Red bean paste (or preferred filling)
  • Butter (for greasing the pan)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, combine the milk and egg.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Preheat a taiyaki pan over medium heat and grease it with butter.
  5. Pour a small amount of batter into the pan, add a spoonful of your filling, then cover with more batter.
  6. Close the pan and cook for about 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Remove from the pan and enjoy warm!

Notes

Serve taiyaki warm by itself or dusted with powdered sugar. It can be paired with green tea for a lovely experience.
