Homemade Mild Sauce

A tangy, slightly spicy homemade mild sauce that’s perfect for tacos, fries, and sandwiches.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 10 jalapeños, seeded and sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • ½ cup onion, chopped (75 g)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups water (480 mL)
  • ½ cup white vinegar (120 mL)

Instructions

  1. Seed and slice the jalapeños, chop the onion and garlic.
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add jalapeños, garlic, and onion. Sauté for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add water, vinegar, and salt. Stir and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Carefully transfer mixture to a blender and blend until smooth.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  6. Let the sauce cool before transferring to a jar or bottle.

Notes

Store in the fridge for up to two weeks. Freeze in portions for longer storage.
