A classic dessert featuring a cake base layered with ice cream and topped with a fluffy meringue shell, baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

  • 1 prepared cake round
  • 3–4 pints of ice cream (your favorite flavors)
  • Meringue:
  • 8 large egg whites, room temperature
  • 1 pinch cream of tartar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base: Start with a prepared cake round.
  2. Add the Ice Cream Layers: Soften the ice cream, layer on top of the cake, and freeze for at least an hour between layers.
  3. Whip the Meringue: Whip the egg whites and cream of tartar to soft peaks, gradually adding sugar until glossy and stiff peaks form.
  4. Assemble the Alaska: Cover the ice cream and cake with meringue, making swirls for a fancy look.
  5. Bake or Torch: Bake at 500°F for 3–5 minutes or use a kitchen torch to toast the meringue until golden.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Slice and serve immediately.

Notes

For a healthier version, consider using angel food cake, low-fat ice cream, and natural sweeteners for the meringue.
