A delightful combination of crispy fried chicken pieces coated in a bright, flavorful orange sauce—sweet, tangy, and savory.

Ingredients

  • 2 large chicken breasts, boneless and skinless
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice (about 2 oranges)
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add cold water until you have a smooth batter.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Dip chicken pieces into the batter, then fry them in the hot oil until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. In a small saucepan, combine orange juice, soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer, then add cornstarch mixed with water to thicken it. Stir until the sauce is glossy and smooth.
  6. In a large bowl or pan, coat the fried chicken pieces with the orange sauce. Toss to ensure every piece is perfectly covered.
  7. Plate the crispy orange chicken and drizzle with sesame oil if desired. Enjoy with steamed rice or your favorite vegetable.

Notes

Adjust the sweetness of the sauce to your liking by modifying the amount of sugar. For extra crunch, double fry the chicken.
