Batter:
4 tablespoons unsalted butter (because butter makes everything better)
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup granulated sugar
½ cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Topping:
1 cup granulated sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ¼ cups boiling water
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
Melt the butter in the dish while the oven preheats.
Combine dry ingredients, then mix in the milk and vanilla. Pour over melted butter.
Sprinkle topping ingredients evenly over the batter.
Pour boiling water over the top without stirring.
