A warm and cozy apple tart that balances tart and sweet flavors, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2–4 tbsp cold water
  • 5 apples (peeled, cored, and sliced thin)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Dash of salt
  • Apricot preserves (for glazing)

Instructions

  1. Make the Crust: Whisk together flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Mix in egg yolk and water to form dough. Chill for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Apple Filling: Toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, lemon juice, and salt. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Roll Out the Dough: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out chilled dough to 1/8 inch thick and transfer to a tart pan.
  4. Assemble the Tart: Arrange apple slices in a spiral pattern on the crust and pour over any juices from the bowl.
  5. Bake: Bake tart for 35–40 minutes until apples are tender and crust is golden brown. Cool for 10 minutes.
  6. Add the Glossy Finish: Warm apricot preserves and brush over the apples for a shiny finish.

Notes

Keep butter cold for a flakier crust. Thin apple slices cook more evenly. Pair with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce for a delightful treat.
